Supernatural, the VR fitness app that Meta purchased and later put into maintenance mode, has been relaunched as a new independent company called Supernatural Health.
Meta announced at Connect that the new independent Supernatural VR fitness app will launch this fall, and it will be supported on Meta Quest headsets and the newly announced Meta VR Glasses. Supernatural Health says that the app will be "a day one title on Meta VR Glasses".
The lightweight new Meta VR Glasses will enable the app to increase visual quality. According to Supernatural Health, this will include "real destinations rendered at a fidelity that wasn't possible until now, coaches who feel like they're exercising right in front of you, and hardware so light the only thing you feel is the workout."
According to Meta VP of Product Management Angela Chang during a video interview with Norman Chan on YouTube, the VR Glasses will offer optional light blockers for more immersion and a rear strap, similar to "croakies", that will secure the headset during more vigorous activities like exercise.
Supernatural Health says that it has managed to enable transfer of all users' statistics from the Supernatural Legacy app to the new app, with "every point, streak, and badge intact". That was a major concern of the user community and is a significant development if accurate.
The new app will feel similar to the old version, but with "new higher-definition environments, workouts, and music, and a slate of improvements shipping this year and beyond", said Supernatural Health.
There appear to be several enhancements already in place, with updated visual design as seen above in the Flow exercise mode, adding color and design elements to what was a largely black and white target and bat color palette.
There also appears to be a new "hands-free" exercise mode that might signal hand tracking in Supernatural for the first time, enabling workouts without controllers required.
The new Supernatural app is available to wishlist now in the Meta Quest store. Subscriptions will run $19.99 monthly or $199.99 annually. Users can secure a discounted "founding member" rate of $180 for the first year by registering at the Supernatural Health website prior to launch.
