Kluge Interactive has added hand tracking support to Synth Riders for Quest 3 in anticipation of the Meta VR Glasses launch in spring 2027.
This is not the first hand tracking implementation for the popular rhythm game. Synth Riders has been a controller-free launch title for Apple Vision Pro, Samsung Galaxy XR, and Snap Specs. The entire catalog of over two hundred songs (including paid DLC tracks) is playable with hand tracking. Kluge noted that as far as the Quest family of headsets goes, this update is specific to Quest 3 and 3S, leaving Quest 2 and Quest Pro as controller-only.
The update also adds optional Neon Bloom visuals for Quest 3 and Steam Frame. Neon Bloom, previously only available for PC VR and PS VR2, adds a soft glow effect of the game's neon elements like note targets, UI panels, and the borders of obstacles. You can adjust the intensity of this effect in the game settings. This was not available on standalone headsets before due to a notable hit to the game's performance.
With hand tracking, Synth Riders is positioned to support Meta's recently announced VR Glasses from day one, a trend we expect to see other developers experiment with to keep in line with support on the latest XR hardware.
Synth Riders is available on Quest, PlayStation VR2, Apple Vision Pro, and Steam.
