Post-apocalyptic survival extraction FPS CONVRGENCE is set to leave SteamVR Early Access on September 17.
The Monkey-With-a-Bomb-developed shooter dropped a release date trailer in this week's VR Games Showcase:
This game has an interesting backstory. Originally, Monkey-With-a-Bomb released a similar game, Paradox of Hope, in 2022 that leaned more heavily into its Metro inspiration. That game was accused of copyright infringement and ultimately the developer decided to halt production and remove the game from sale in 2023 to avoid an expensive legal battle. At the time, the solo developer vowed to reshape the work already done into a new game that did not resemble Metro nearly as much.
CONVRGENCE has been in Early Access for over two years, first releasing in April 2024. In that time, it has seen a steady stream of content updates adding new enemies, missions, guns, and features. It also saw a price increase from $19.99 to $24.99 earlier this month. The game currently has a 'Very Positive' rating on Steam from 1,514 reviews.
According to the roadmap, the 1.0 update will see a rework of the main missions (including a proper ending) with added story context and voice acting. Other features expected are advanced graphics and difficulty settings, cloud saves, and a new tutorial.
