The Biggest Oculus Rift and Gear VR Releases For The Week Of 08/27/17

It’s a pretty quiet — but not dead — week in Oculus land. There are three notable releases on the Rift side and some interesting stuff for Gear VR. Let’s dive in, shall we?

If you missed the previous entry of this list you can see those new releases here. And don’t forget that UploadVR has a Steam community group, complete with a curated list of recommendations so that you don’t have to waste any money finding out what’s good in the world of VR.

Plus — check out our list of the best Oculus Rift games and best Gear VR games for more suggestions!

The Big Releases

Blasters of the Universe, from SecretLocation
Price: $14.99 (Rift)

Long in development under Early Access, Blasters of the Universe is now a full game with a campaign in which you strive for high scores as you dodge enemy attacks in VR’s very own take on the bullet hell genre.

Recommendation: A great price for a solid game. Grab it.

Headmaster, from Frame Interactive Studio
Price: $19.99 (Rift)

One of PSVR’s best launch titles finally comes to PC VR headsets this week. At its heart Headmaster seems like a simple mini-game in which you hit balls with your head to hit targets. In reality, there’s an expansive and hilarious game here you should really check out.

Recommendation: Absolutely pick this one up if you want a bit of a neck workout.

ARK: Survival Evolved, from Studio Wildcard
Price: $59.99 (Rift)

The long-awaited full release of ARK takes places this week and it still has Oculus support intact, though we’ll warn that it’s not the most optimized experience. Still, you can explore a full world here and tame dinosaurs while you build structures and survive the wilderness.

Recommendation: You probably already have Ark if you’ve ever shown any interest in it, but if not, there’s a ton of content on offer.

Sea Hero VR, from Glitchers
Price: Free (Gear)

Sea Hero Quest is a really interesting project. It’s designed to tackle dementia by providing scientists with research data as you play. It provides insight into human navigation skills, the loss of which is one of the first signs of the disease. Just trying this out could provide a heap of data.

Recommendation: Absolutely play this, even if it’s just for a few minutes.
