Squingle Arcade, the quickplay version of the award-winning fluid-maze puzzler Squingle, is available now on SteamVR.
The game launched earlier this year on Quest. Arcade takes the original game's unique maze-navigation mechanic and turns it into a faster-paced, free-to-play competitive spatial experience. You guide glowing orbs through an amorphous gel-like structure while collecting color pods, defeating enemies, and avoiding hazards to reach the goal. All this is presented in a rapid gameplay loop, letting you dive back in to chase high scores on the requisite leaderboards.
Here's the Steam trailer:
Squingle Arcade comes with over sixty different levels of varying difficulty and developer Dr. Benjamin Outram promised a free DLC pack with over twenty additional levels that is in development and expected to launch very soon. The game also has asynchronous multiplayer and ghost racing, allowing you to chase your friend's time or chase the best players in the world even while playing solo.
Upon completion of a maze, you get Star Orbs, an in-game currency that can be cashed in for extended time or extra energy during a run and new skins.
One feature we do not see too often is that the maze is scalable, meaning you can grab the corners and make the puzzle extremely large to fill out your play space and literally 'walk' the orb to the finish, physically twisting, turning, and dipping it through the maze. Alternatively, make it small enough to hover over your desk for a more relaxed run.
Squingle Arcade is available now for free on Steam and Quest.
