Developer Polyarc Games, best known for the Moss series in VR, has closed its doors for good after nearly twelve years.
A post on Polyarc's LinkedIn account confirmed the news with the following statement:
Today is the end of an era for Polyarc.
After nearly 12 years riding the joyous rollercoaster of emotions that is making video games, our time together has come to an end. As we wind down active development, we are saying our farewells to each other.
Working together over all of these years has been an honor. Bringing surprise and delight to those who played our games has been a privilege. Thank you to everyone at Polyarc, our work is now finished.
Polyarc has been home to exceptional developers across all disciplines. If you are hiring, please see the link below.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey.
The post also links to a spreadsheet listing the affected employees and their positions for any companies who are hiring.
Polyarc saw a round of layoffs in March of this year resulting in two-thirds of the team being let go.
The two mainline Moss games were beloved by players and critics alike, proving that a primarily third-person experience can translate well to VR with smart game design and mechanics. The franchise has over 160 awards and nominations.
Moss (now titled Moss VR) originally launched on the first PlayStation VR in February 2018, followed by PC VR in June of the same year. It was a launch day title for the first Oculus Quest in May 2019 and has over seven thousand five-star reviews across its platforms.

The sequel, originally titled Moss: Book II, followed a few years later, again starting on the original PlayStation VR in March 2022 followed by Quest 2 that July and PC VR in October. That game won VR/AR Game of the Year at The Game Awards, Game of the Year at the VR Awards, and multiple other nominations and wins at the D.I.C.E. Awards, NYX Game Awards, and New York Video Game Critics Circle, among others.

Both games were renamed earlier to Moss VR and Moss 2 VR to avoid confusion with this year's flatscreen port, Moss: The Forgotten Relic, that combined both games into a single fantasy adventure.
Before The Forgotten Relic, Polyarc expanded the Moss universe with the Hero Academy-inspired PvP strategy game Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss. That game had an extended early beta period in 2023 before going back into development and officially launching in November 2025. Glassbreakers failed to capture the same audience as its predecessors, currently sitting with a 'Mixed' rating from just 22 reviews on Steam and a 4.7 score from 229 ratings on the Meta Horizon Store. It was also released on Apple Arcade.

Moss: The Forgotten Relic released in July after Polyarc noted it had racked up over two hundred thousand wishlists prior to release. Presumably, given today's news, those wishlists did not convert into enough sales to keep the studio afloat.
