At last year’s Oculus Connect, the company introduced Face Your Fears, a new horror-themed Gear VR app from Evolve developer Turtle Rock Studios. One year on, and the app has seen huge success.
At this year’s Connect, Oculus announced that Face Your Fears had been downloaded over 1.5 million times. Oculus VP of Content Jason Rubin even went as far as to call the app one of Oculus’ “biggest success stories”. The initial download for the app is free, though additional content packs that have been released since are available as in-app purchases. These content packs contain new stories and environments that exploit different terrors.
Rubin didn’t reveal exactly how many of those 1.5 million downloaders went on to actually purchase content.
But Turtle Rock is far from done with the app. Rubin also announced on-stage that a new content pack based around Netflix’s hugely popular horror show, Stranger Things, will be coming in the next month. We didn’t see any footage from the new content, but the tease alone will be enough to get plenty of people excited.
Elsewhere, Turtle Rock just revealed a gorgeous new VR RPG for Gear in The Well, and has more content in the pipeline.
